Fazl offers to mediate between Pakistan, Afghanistan
ISLAMABAD: Ameer JUIF Maulana Fazlur Rehman Tuesday offered to mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan to reduce tensions between the two neighbouring countries.
Speaking informally to journalists at the Jinnah Convention Centre, he noted his past efforts in easing bilateral tensions and expressed readiness to do so again. Fazlur Rehman said he had contacted the Afghan leadership, who were willing to resolve issues amicably. “Now that armed clashes have ceased, the verbal exchange of accusations must also stop,” he urged, adding that the social media must also temper its role.
Fazl encouraged the Pakistani government to reflect on its approach to Kashmir rather than focusing on the Afghan foreign minister’s recent remarks. He also suggested that Pakistan’s leadership reconsider expectations of the Afghan regime in addressing terrorism, noting that Afghanistan’s intelligence and military systems are in developmental stages. In contrast, he described Pakistan’s forces as highly capable and professional.
He cautioned the government against opening a front on its western borders, questioning the wisdom of such a move. He also advised restraint in using force against Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan.
Additionally, he highlighted that the election of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister remains pending in the High Court, urging that it be addressed in accordance with the Constitution and law.
