Confirmed CCHF patient stable, another 2 suspects reported
Rawalpindi:A confirmed patient of a deadly infection, Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever, who is undergoing treatment at Holy Family Hospital since June 17 has been declared stable on Monday.
According to Head of Department of Infectious Diseases at HFH Professor Dr. Muhammad Mujeeb Khan, the patient is still undergoing treatment at male intensive care unit however he is getting better and can be termed as stable.
The 38-year old male patient, Rashid Mumtaz, was taken to the HFH on June 17 from Model Town in Wah Cantt, Taxila with symptoms including high-grade fever, body aches, bleeding from gums, and hematemesis, a very dangerous condition in which a person bleeds internally and vomits blood as a result.
Meanwhile, according to In-charge District Disease Surveillance and Response Unit Dr. Waqar Ahmed, another two CCHF suspects have been reported from the region. One suspected case of CCHF has been reported from Rawalpindi Cantonment Board area while the other from Attock. Both the suspects are stable and their PCR reports are being awaited, he said.
It is important that to date a total of eight patients have been screened for CCHF in Rawalpindi of which only two were tested positive. One of the confirmed CCHF patients could not survive while the other is undergoing treatment at DID in HFH.
