In a development during the Academic Council meeting of the University of Karachi held on Monday under the chairmanship of KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, the members approved the transfer of MPhil and PhD students from private universities into its postgraduate programmes.
Officials said on Monday these transfers will be subject to thorough vetting and require approvals from the Departmental Research Committee, the concerned Head of Department, and the Dean of Faculty. Such students will be required to fulfil all the admission-related criteria.
Additionally, the KU’s Academic Council gave approval to abolition of the requirement of a No Objection Certificate for employed students seeking admission in the MPhil or PhD programmes.
The meeting also approved the nomination of Professor Dr Basit Ansari as the Academic Council representatives to the Board of Advanced Studies and Research for a three-year term, while Professor Dr Laila Shehnaz was appointed as the member for the Affiliation Committee for a two-year term.
The Academic Council also gave in-principle approval for the establishment of an Institute for Sustainable Management and Innovation. VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi formed a six-member committee to oversee the plan in detail. Dean of the Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences Professor Dr Zaeema Asrar Mohiuddin has been nominated the convener of the committee, which includes the chairperson of the department of public administration, Professor Dr Saima Akhter, director of institute of environmental studies Dr Farrakh Nawaz, faculty member of department of computer science Dr Nadeem Mehmood, faculty member of department of social work Dr Sakina Riaz and faculty member of KU’s Dr A. Q. Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Dr Afshan Awan.
The participants of the meeting also approved the minutes of the previous Academic Council meeting held on April 18, 2025, and also approved the proceedings of the equivalence committee, which was held on February 26, 2025. Meanwhile, the KU announces admission schedule for MPhil, PhD, ME, LLM, MS, MD programmes 2025.
The University of Karachi announced postgraduate admissions for the 2025 academic session on Monday. The KU is offering admissions to MPhil, ME, MS, LLM, MS (Surgery), and MD (Medicine) programmes, with applications being accepted from June 23 to July 7, 2025. It was decided in the meeting, chaired by KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, that applications will be accepted.
The interested candidates can download the postgraduate admission prospectus 2025, entrance test form, and fee voucher from https://uok.edu.pk/admissions/pg-index.php and submit them to their relevant departments along with the required fees and documents.
A list of candidates eligible to appear in the admission test will be published on July 18, 2025, on the KU’s website. They may collect their admit cards from the concerned departments, centers, or institutes between July 21 and July 23, 2025. The entry test is scheduled to be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
