SC moved against BHC verdict on arrest of Dr Mahrang Baloch
Dr Mahrang Baloch's sister pleaded with the apex court to suspend the operation of the BHC judgement
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court was requested on Wednesday to suspend the operation of the judgement delivered by the Balochistan High Court (BHC), which dismissed the plea of human rights activist Dr Mahrang Baloch against her arrest order under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) by the Quetta deputy commissioner.
Ms Nadia, sister of Dr Mahrang Baloch, filed an appeal in the Supreme Court under Article 185(3) of the Constitution, challenging the BHC judgement of April 15, in the petition contesting the detention order issued by the deputy commissioner on March 22, under the MPO. She pleaded with the apex court to suspend the operation of the BHC judgement.
She argued that the Division Bench erred in its judgement by failing to ensure the production of all relevant material on which the MPO order was based, which would have allowed the court to assess the reasonableness, arbitrariness and legality of the detention order.
