PESHAWAR: The work on PTI government’s flagship project, the New Peshawar Valley, is progressing rapidly, marking a significant step towards the development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s first fully master-planned modern city.

The project aims to ease pressure on urban Peshawar while providing world-class residential and commercial infrastructure to citizens and investors.

In recent weeks, notable momentum has been seen in land demarcation, infrastructure planning, and stakeholder engagement. The expressway, a vital component of the project, spans 9.5 kilometers in length and 400 feet in width, covering 2,368 kanals.

Demarcation has already been completed from Point Zero up to 7.5 kilometers without any public resistance — a positive indicator of local cooperation. The route of the expressway passes through key areas including Kundi Taza Din, Ali Beig, Wazir Ghari, Babee (Nowshera), and Urmar Mera and Urmar Payan (Peshawar).

Out of a total notified land bank exceeding 105,000 kanals across six mouzas, over 30,000 kanals have already been submitted for land sharing, with 13,000 kanal cases officially intimated. Among the leading contributors are Urmar Mera and Ghari Faizullah, which have provided 5,562 and 15,323 kanals respectively. This land pool is sufficient to launch Phase One and Phase Two, each requiring around 12,000 kanals.

Initially, the project was under the supervision of Peshawar Development Authority (PDA). However, due to slow progress and administrative delays, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government transferred the project to the Pakhtunkhwa Housing Authority (PHA). Since assuming responsibility, PHA has significantly accelerated the pace of work and planning.

Dr Amjad, Special Assistant to Chief Minister, said that New Peshawar Valley will be the province’s first fully master-planned modern city, designed with a focus on transparency, timely development, and long-term sustainability. Interest in the project continues to rise among local investors as well as overseas Pakistanis.

The project director Dawood Shah said that to-date, over 6,710 intimation letters have been issued, with Urmar Mera and Ghari Faizullah once again leading in volume. The NPV is divided in 8 different phases and each phase will comprise around 12,000 kanals of land. He said the human resource deployment is underway, and container site offices have been established in Moza Urmar Mera and Ghari Faizullah. Solarization of these offices has been prioritized for sustainable operations, while improved site access has been ensured through SDC Pabbi and Badda Bair.
