KARACHI: Mari Energies Ltd announced a gas discovery at the Soho-1 exploratory well in the Sujawal Block, Sindh, marking the first find in the Lower Goru (Massive Sand) Formation within the block.
The well, drilled in District Sujawal, tested at a flow rate of 30.01 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas on a 64/64-inch choke, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 1,482.5 pounds per square inch gauge (psig), the company said in a statement on Friday.
This discovery opens a new exploration front in the Massive Sands of Lower Goru, according to Mari Energies, which holds a 100 per cent working interest and operates the block. The company said the breakthrough strengthens efforts to address Pakistan’s rising gas demand while expanding domestic hydrocarbon resources.
Managing Director and CEO Faheem Haider said the find underscores Mari’s commitment to developing new reserves. He thanked the Ministry of Petroleum, Directorate General of Petroleum Concessions (DGPC), provincial authorities and local communities for their support. Haider added that the discoveries at the Ghazij Formation in the Mari Field and now at Sujawal point to significant untapped potential in Pakistan’s mature basins.
Chairperson Lt Gen (r) Anwar Ali Hyder praised the Mari Energies team for achieving the milestone and acknowledged the vital support of federal and provincial governments in enabling the company’s progress.
