Alvi to get notice if canals project approval proven: Ali Muhammad
Ali questioned why Zardari did not intervene if project had been approved during his presidency
ISLAMABAD: Former federal minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Ali Muhammad Khan has said that a show-cause notice will be issued to former president Arif Alvi if it is proven that he approved the controversial canals project during his tenure.
Speaking during a private TV talk show, he responded to a recent claim made by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Bilawal had alleged that the decision to initiate the canals project was taken during the caretaker setup, when Arif Alvi was serving as president.
“If Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has any evidence to support his claim, he should present it,” Ali Muhammad said. “If proven, the party will issue a show-cause notice to Arif Alvi and demand an explanation.”
The PTI leadership has consistently blamed President Asif Ali Zardari for endorsing the project. Ali Muhammad questioned why President Zardari did not intervene if the project had been approved during his presidency.
He reiterated PTI’s support for the people of Sindh, who have raised concerns over the impact of the project.
