LAHORE:Punjab Home Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal Thursday visited Sialkot District Jail and suspended its superintendent Babar Ali over poor administrative conditions. Kashif Rasool, Additional Superintendent of Sahiwal Central Jail, has been appointed as the new Superintendent of Sialkot District Jail.

The secretary also interacted with visitors to learn about their concerns and inspected the jail hospital, kitchen, children's and adult barracks, and the stitching centre. He directed the Inspector General (IG) of Prisons to personally visit jails to ensure implementation of government directives.

He also sought a performance report from the IG Prisons on all prison industries and highlighted that 20 prison industries have been established in Punjab, where inmates are being provided vocational training.

He emphasised that jail superintendents should equip prisoners with technical skills to help rehabilitate them as productive members of society. He also instructed the IG Prisons to convene a meeting of the Jail Foundation to review ongoing initiatives.
