SUKKUR: Lawyers continued their sit-in at Babarloi Bypass, Khairpur, against the construction of canals on Indus River on Saturday during which as many as 50 lawyers fainted but pledged to not withdraw their protest.
The lawyers began their sit-in against the controversial canals project at Babarloi bypass the other day. Backed by different nationalist parties, the protesters completely blocked the key Sindh-Punjab route, halting inter-provincial traffic to draw attention to growing unrest over water resource disputes.
They said if the protest on the Babarloi Bypass did not yield results, they have a plan B to hold a sit-in on the Islamabad’s Shahra-e-Dastoor (Constitution Avenue).
They chanted slogans demanding immediate halt to construction of canals and fair water distribution from the Indus. “This is not just about a canal it’s about the future of Sindh,” they said.
