Six alleged terrorists killed in Lakki, Waziristan
PESHAWAR/ WANA: Six alleged terrorists were killed during an operation by the police in Lakki Marwat and South Waziristan districts, officials said on Sunday.
An official in Lakki Marwat said after information about the presence of terrorists within the limits of Tajuri Police Station, the local police personnel and the members of the peace committee chased them.
“Other contingent of Lakki Police, CTD and Special Quick Response Force led by District Police Officer Lakki Jawad Ishaq reached the spot and started a search operation,” he said, adding, the local peace committee and local people actively supported the cops.
During the operation, an encounter took place with 20 to 25 terrorists in the forest located in Khankhel Mandzai in the limits of Tajuri Police Station and Bargai.“Heavy weapons were used from both sides in this two-hour battle. The police fought bravely and killed three terrorists in the crossfire without suffering any loss,” the official said. A search operation is underway in the area after several others were injured and escaped.
IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed praised the courage and bravery of the Lakki Marwat police and announced cash rewards and commendable certificates for the soldiers involved in the operation. He paid tribute to the patriotic spirit of the brave people of Lakki Marwat.
Meanwhile, the militants affiliated with a banned organisation attempted to launch an attack on the residence of a police officer in Tordib village, located in the Toi Khullah Tehsil of South Waziristan, officials said on Sunday.
“The assault was swiftly thwarted thanks to the timely and coordinated response of local residents and the officer himself,” said an official, adding, a fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, during which three militants were killed. According to sources, the slain attackers were identified as members of the Dotani tribe.
