KARACHI: Google Wallet is now officially available in Pakistan, marking a major step forward in the country’s digital payment landscape, according to a press release on Wednesday. The platform enables users to make contactless payments, store boarding passes and manage loyalty cards securely from their Android phones or Wear OS devices.
“Pakistan’s digital payments landscape is evolving rapidly, and Google Wallet offers a secure and seamless way to pay, shop and travel,” said Country Director for Google Pakistan Farhan Qureshi. He emphasised that the service would enhance financial inclusion and economic opportunities, reinforcing Google’s commitment to Pakistan’s digital future. Initially, cardholders from Bank AlFalah, Bank of Punjab, Faysal Bank Noor, HBL, JazzCash, Meezan Bank and UBL can add their Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards to Google Wallet for tap-and-pay transactions. Cards from Allied Bank, easypaisa Digital Bank, JS Bank, and Zindigi will be supported soon. Users can also make online payments wherever the Google Pay button is accepted.
E-commerce platforms like Onic, Gul Ahmed, Sana Safinaz and J., and power utility K-Electric will soon integrate Google Pay through PayFast and Safepay, streamlining online purchases. Additionally, travellers flying with Batik Air and Thai Airways can store digital boarding passes in Google Wallet, receiving real-time flight updates. Services like Bookme[dot]pk and Sastaticket[dot]pk will allow users to add travel tickets, while Naheed Loyalty Card members can now store and use their rewards digitally.
Google Wallet prioritises security, using industry-standard tokenisation to protect transactions. Lost or stolen devices can be locked instantly using Google’s Find My Device feature. Users can download Google Wallet from the Google Play Store today for a safer, more convenient digital payment experience.
