Anti-monarchy groups comes in guns blazing: ‘Why does the government give royals what they demand?’
The anti-monarchy group known for its hardline stance comes forward yet again
Once again, the Anti-Monarchy group Republic has come forward that too right after the Trade Minister released a statement to Parliament about Andrew’s appointment to the title of Trade Envoy.
They claimed just recently “we have found no evidence that a formal due diligence or vetting process was undertaken,” and that “there is also no evidence that this was considered.”
In response to this Graham Smith spoke on behalf of Republic and said, “these latest files show the Queen lobbying for her son to be given a high-status role for which he was wholly unqualified and unfit. Why does the government give the royals what they demand?” and “what possible reason was Andrew made a trade ambassador?” in his eyes the reason is simple, and its “pressure from the royals” who “put their own interests first.”
He also bashed the exceptions the Royal Family enjoys, especially when it comes to the freedom of information legislation because “the royals have access and leverage, which together with unequalled secrecy raise serious questions about undue influence.”
He also said, “royal lobbying should be subject to the same rules of scrutiny as any other kind of lobbying. The Andrew affair makes that demand even more urgent.”
