KP Assembly session adjourned for lack of quorum

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly once again could not complete its agenda when the session was adjourned due to lack of quorum on Tuesday.

Chaired by Deputy Speaker Surriyya Bibi, the provincial assembly session began late from its scheduled time where all questions in the question-hour lapsed due to the absence of the movers.

In the 120-member House, the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf enjoys two-thirds majority with 93 members on the treasury benches but still the current session was adjourned without completing its agenda for the fourth time.

The current session is one of the longest sessions in the parliamentary history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that started in July last year.The combined opposition has 27 members in the provincial assembly where 25 members on reserved seats including women and minority seats are yet to be elected.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Law Aftab Alam Advocate presented The West Pakistan Civil Courts (amendment) Bill in the House which was passed by majority.Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MPA from South Waziristan Asif Khan Mehsud though a calling-attention notice criticized his own government for not providing facilities to existing public hospitals, health centres in the tribal district. He claimed that the public hospitals had no facilities like furniture, x-ray and medical labs and equipment while medical staff did not perform duties.

He demanded that more staff including doctors should be appointed in the hospitals and health centres in South Waziristan. The call attention notice was referred to the standing committee concerned. The session was adjourned till February 17.
