RAWALPINDI: Senior military officials from Pakistan and China met at the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Headquarters in Beijing on Monday, agreeing to enhance cooperation against common adversaries threatening peace and development in the region. The meeting at the PLA Headquarters took place between Gen. Li Qiaoming, Commander of the PLA Army, and Lt. Gen. Muhammad Avais Dastgir, Chief of General Staff (CGS) of the Pakistan Army.

“Both sides agreed to further enhance cooperation to counter common enemies working against the peace and development of the region,” stated the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Discussions centred on the evolving global and regional situation, with follow-up measures to strengthen bilateral military-to-military cooperation. During the meeting, the CGS expressed heartfelt condolences over the recent loss of Chinese lives in a terrorist attack in Karachi and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the security of Chinese nationals in Pakistan.

Gen. Li acknowledged the Pakistan Army’s efforts and initiatives to improve security for Chinese citizens and assured Pakistan of China’s full support. Other areas of defence cooperation were also discussed, including military education, training, equipment, and technology. Both sides reviewed the progress in these collaborative efforts and agreed to further institutionalise mechanisms for sharing experiences and increasing regular interactions.
