PESHAWAR: A gateway would be constructed at the city’s main entry near the Motorway Toll Plaza to symbolically welcome visitors to the provincial capital.
An official communique said the gateway was being built under the Peshawar Uplift Programme Phase-II, underscoring its historic and cultural significance. The gateway, showcasing imagery of Peshawar’s heritage sites, will serve as an emblem of the city’s storied past and evolving identity. The decision, it added, was taken at a meeting chaired by Commissioner, Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mahsud is part of efforts to implement a 20-year master plan aimed at guiding Peshawar’s sustainable growth.
“This gateway will reflect Peshawar’s unique cultural legacy while signifying our commitment to a progressive future,” said Riaz Mahsud.
The master plan includes a phased housing strategy, with developments to enhance existing zones and create new, high-density areas to meet rising demand. Proposals for transport include the expansion of ring roads, advanced traffic management, and pedestrian-friendly zones to improve connectivity.
Additional measures for water and sanitation include modernized supply systems and upgraded sewerage networks, while environmental initiatives focus on green spaces, improved air and water quality, and robust waste management systems.
