IMC announces a five-day production shutdown

KARACHI: Indus Motor Company (IMC) has announced to close its production plant for five days amid ongoing supply chain disruptions.

In a statement addressed to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Wednesday, the company secretary of IMC said, “The company is currently experiencing low levels of raw materials and component inventory and is facing supply chain challenges. This has resulted in a shortage of parts and components necessary for vehicle production. As a result, the company is unable to meet its production requirements.”Consequently, the company temporarily suspended operations at its production plant from September 26 to September 30, both days inclusive.

The challenges faced by Indus Motors reflect broader difficulties in the automotive sector. Rising vehicle prices, driven by inflation and supply chain disruptions, have led to declining consumer demand. Raw material shortages, exacerbated by dwindling foreign exchange reserves, have further strained automakers like Pak Suzuki Motors and Honda Cars, both of which have also faced production shutdowns.

These issues are not confined to the auto industry. Many sectors are experiencing similar disruptions due to the shortage of imported raw materials, a result of the country’s ongoing foreign exchange crisis.
