ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has imposed a fine of Rs10 million on the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) for failing to properly implement earthing and grounding of its high-tension and low-tension poles and structures across its service area.
In its order, NEPRA stated that after reviewing Iesco’s submissions during a hearing and considering the NEPRA Act, NEPRA (Fine) Regulations 2021, and other relevant documents, it found Iesco’s response to a show-cause notice unsatisfactory. The notice had been issued due to the utility’s failure to ensure 100% earthing or grounding of its poles and structures.
Following Iesco’s unsatisfactory response, the regulatory body decided to impose the fine and directed the company to ground all remaining steel structures within three months and all PCC poles within one year.
The authority warned that failure to comply with these directives could result in further penalties against IESCO, which will be determined upon the completion of the specified timelines.
NEPRA also ordered Iesco to pay the fine within 15 days and submit proof of payment to NEPRA Registrar’s Office. Failure to do so may result in the recovery of the amount as arrears of land revenue or through other legal means, in addition to any further action for non-compliance, the authority added.
