More smoke than lava

This letter refers to the news report ‘Lava simmering, people ready to face jails: Imran’ (August 13, 2024). Imran Khan had a once in a lifetime opportunity offered to him on a plate, but through his arrogance, incompetence and corruption, he squandered it. However, Imran Khan is right in claiming that conditions in Pakistan – at least financially - are worse than those in Bangladesh. This is due in-part to the illegal power grab by a few over-ambitious officials but is mostly because of our corrupt and inept dynastic politicians. As for the claim about simmering lava, unlike the eruption in Bangladesh, not much is likely to happen in Pakistan because in comparison to the united Bangladeshi nation, we mostly remain divided along ethnic and other lines, which is exactly what our politicians exploit and even promote.
