LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is about to significantly overhaul its central contract system, with performance and fitness set to be the primary determinants of player categorisation.

In a bid to reward consistent performers and incentivise improvement, the PCB is considering promoting fast bowler Naseem Shah to the top-tier Category A contract. Meanwhile, players like Shadab Khan whose form has been inconsistent could face a demotion in contract status.

The decision-making process has involved extensive consultations with the coaching staff, including coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie. The board is also considering reducing the number of players in Category D.
