MULTAN: The Women University Multan Directorate Sports and Higher Education Commission jointly collaborated to celebrate the Olympic Day 2024, with great enthusiasm and a strong display of sportsmanship at WUM Katchery Campus.

The event marks the commemoration of the birth of the Modern Olympics in 1894, spearheaded by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who recognised the educational values of sports, now honoured as Olympic Values.

Olympic Day pays tribute to the legacy of the Modern Olympics and its core values of excellence, friendship, and respect.

This day encourages individuals of all ages and abilities to engage in various sporting and cultural activities, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. The event highlighted the university dedication to promoting sports, physical fitness, and fostering a spirit of healthy competition among its students.

The day featured a series of games including race, badminton and table tennis matches, where talented athletes showcased their skills and sportsmanship.Speaking on the occasion, WUM vice chancellor Prof Dr Kalsoom Pracha emphasised that the celebration of International Olympic Day underscored the values of fair play, respect, and friendship embodied by the Olympic spirit.

She noted the event provided a platform for students to demonstrate their sporting talents and celebrate the joy of sportsmanship.WIM Director Sports Prof Dr Mamoona Khan expressed pride in the achievements of the college athletes. She highlighted the role of sports in promoting physical and mental well-being among students and reiterated the department’s commitment to providing opportunities for sporting development.District Sports Officer Farooq Latif said the event aims to foster a spirit of unity and Olympism within the community. The event was attended by faculty members and students.
