Punjab Police on high alert, says IGP
LAHORE:Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar visited the control rooms of home department and central police office. IG Punjab reviewed the security arrangements for the central processions from the control rooms, Special Secretary Home, Fazal-ur-Rehman in the control room of the Home Department while AIG Legal Saleem Chughtai gave briefings to the IG Punjab in the control room of the Central Police Office. IG Punjab also monitored the 9th Muharram main procession of Pandu Street. He said that all the central processions are peacefully proceeding on their traditional routes while the processions and majalis are being monitored from the central control rooms. He said that Punjab Police is on high alert to maintain the atmosphere of law and order, public is being provided with a peaceful environment and foolproof security for the peaceful holding of majalis and processions.
IGP visited Safe City Headquarters and reviewed the direct monitoring operations of Muharram processions across the province. MD Safe City, Muhammad Ahsan Younis, briefed on the arrangements for procession monitoring, with Chief Operating Officer of Safe City, Mastansar Feroz, Commissioner Lahore Zaid bin Maqsood, and other officers present.
While interacting with security personnel, including Dolphin Force members, IG Punjab issued instructions saying that security duties of Majalis and processions should be performed with full diligence. IG Punjab stressed to keep vigilant eye on miscreants.
CCPO visits procession routes
CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana visited Majalis places and routes of mourning processions at Pando Street, Islampura and inspected the security arrangements.
According to official sources, security personnel and organisers of Imambargahs also met the CCPO. SP City briefed the CCPO on the security arrangements. Bilal Siddique Kamyana said that Lahore police was determined to ensure peace during Muharram and added that foolproof security arrangements had been made at Majalis venues and procession routes. He further said that Lahore police was fully alert for Muharram processions security.
Martyred ASI paid tributes
IG Dr Usman Anwar on Tuesday paid glowing tributes to ASI Muhammad Nawaz who embraced martyrdom in Sheikhupura in gunfire with suspected outlaws. He said the ASI sacrificed his life in the line of duty; department will never forget his supreme sacrifice and best welfare of the martyr's family will be taken care of to the fullest extent possible.
ASI Nawaz was serving in Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP). On Monday night while on duty, he stopped suspicious persons riding a motorcycle in Qila Sattar Shah area, the suspects opened fire instead of stopping, ASI Nawaz was martyred in the firing. A suspect was killed in retaliatory firing by the police and his accomplice managed to escape. Funeral prayers for ASI Nawaz were held at Police Lines Sheikhupura.
