Gold medallist engineer Itteqa’s murder suspects caught in Quetta
A Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Karachi team has arrested the gold medallist engineer’s murder case suspects in Quetta. Gold medallist Itteqa Moin, 27, had been shot dead by muggers in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on June 1.
Following the incident, Sindh police chief IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon formed an investigation team, and ordered CIA Karachi chief DIG Muqaddas Haider to catch the culprits.
DIG Haider formed and led a team comprising the Special Investigation Unit SSP, and they visited the crime scene to gathered evidence, including the CCTV camera footage.
During the course of the investigation, the team found out that the suspects had fled to Quetta, so DIG Haider sent a CIA team to raid a specific location in Quetta. The officer also consulted with the local authorities for providing support to the CIA team in arresting the suspects.
Officials said the CIA team managed to arrest the suspects after some resistance, and was now heading back to Karachi with the detainees. They said the suspects were found to be involved in snatching vehicles and then selling them in Balochistan. They also said the suspects are trained.
The Gulshan-e-Iqbal police had registered a case under sections 302 (premeditated murder), 397 (robbery or dacoity) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s brother Usman Moin. The investigators said that a spent bullet casing of a 9mm pistol and the CCTV camera footage of the incident had been acquired.
They said the footage showed the victim putting up “some resistance” during the mugging.
The victim’s elder brother Ibad Moin told the media that Irtiqa was a gold medallist who had been pursuing his MBA from the Institute of Business Administration. He said his brother had got married last year, adding that he had gone to the market when the incident happened.
