A strategic plan for Eidul Azha arrangements was devised on Sunday in a meeting chaired by Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) Managing Director Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah.

The meeting included a briefing on the plan. Shah ordered that detailed information about offal collection points, machinery, and the number of pickup trucks and staff in each union committee be provided.

According to the plan, 99 collection points would be established zone-wise in Karachi’s seven districts to collect animal remains. Additionally, 40 collection points will be set up in Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana. Shah ordered that after further improvements and modifications, the Eidul Azha plan should be presented at next week’s meeting.

He emphasised ensuring all weighing machines at garbage transfer stations and landfill sites remain operational, and that maintenance of all the machinery is completed before Eid to prevent any disruptions.

He also ordered that all the machinery and lime arrangements for operations be ensured, and that trucks carrying the animal remains to landfill sites be covered.

The plan includes maintaining regular garbage collection without interruption during the four days of Eid operations. Shah directed contractors to ensure the provision of lights, camps, water and other arrangements at the collection points and burial sites.

According to the SSWMB, raising public awareness and ensuring full coordination with all municipal institutions, especially UC chairmen, and other agencies to provide relief to the public during Eid is a priority, while complaint centres in all the zones would remain operational.

The meeting was attended by SSWMB Operations Executive Director Tariq Nizamani, all the relevant directors and deputy directors, officials from private companies, and, through videoconferencing, representatives of Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana.
