PESHAWAR/ISLAMABAD: The federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments on Sunday agreed to resolve all the issues through mutual consultations.
The understanding was reached when Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur met Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Federal Minister for Energy Awais Ahamd Khan Leghari at the Ministry of Interior in the federal capital, said an official communique.
It said during the meeting, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s current situation was discussed and progress was seen on electricity loadshedding and other issues. It was also decided to have another meeting today (Monday.)
It is worth mentioning here that power loadshedding has become a thorny issue between the federal and KP governments.
The matter came to the limelight recently when Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur threatened to take control of the power distribution company, Peshawar Electric Supply Company after decrying the excessive power outages in the province.
He had warned of taking control of the Pesco and issuing his own power loadshedding schedule if the issue was not resolved.
The chief minister had stated that KP was generating electricity more than what it needed but its people were facing heavy power loadshedding despite that which, he said, was an injustice.
He had asked the federal government to improve the situation and provide, what he said was due rights to the province as far as its share in the hydel power generation was concerned.
KP CM Gandapur met Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan at Adiala jail on Sunday after a meeting with the federal ministers.
The CM remained with Imran Khan for over an hour and briefed him about his provincial government’s performance. He also briefed him about the recent Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) meeting. Reportedly, the PTI leaders also talked about the current political situation of the party and the country.
