PESHAWAR: A non-governmental organization, Da Hawwa Lur, has constituted a legal aid committee to help vulnerable women and transgender community members.
A communication issued here on Sunday said the organization advocated against all forms of gender discrimination and segregation along with any other barriers to women’s development and empowerment.
The legal aid committee will consist of Shakeel Ahmad (academician), Aisha Khursheed Advocate, Mehwish Mohib Advocate, Mahwish Sana Siddiqui Advocate, Umar Utmanzai Advocate, Abubakar Sadiq (journalist), Riffat Anjum (communication sector) and Arzoo Khan (Transgender Alliance focal Person).
Speaking on the occasion, Da Hawwa Lur chief, Khursheed Bano, said the committee was meant for protecting the rights of women and transgendered persons.“The committee will identify the legal hurdles to the attainment of justice and put forward suggestions for getting the issue addressed to ensure justice dispensation to all,” she said.
Khursheed Bano pointed out that there were gaps in the policy and law-making that impeded the implementation of the laws. “This legal aid committee will do the needful,” she hoped.Shawana Shah said the committee would go through the human rights and the prevalent laws to help bridge the gap between the two.
