ISLAMABAD: The superintendent of Adiala Jail on Tuesday filed an intra-court appeal against the court’s decision to allow meetings with the PTI founder in jail.
The superintendent has approached the Islamabad High Court to set aside a single bench decision to allow meetings with the PTI founder in jail. The PTI founder and Faisal Javed have been made parties to the intra-court appeal. The Islamabad High Court registrar has fixed both intra-court appeals for hearing tomorrow. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri will hold the hearing tomorrow.
Meanwhile, a contempt of court petition has been filed with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against superintendent Adiala jail for not arranging a meeting with the PTI founder Chairman Imran Khan. Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Chairman Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), filed the complaint on Tuesday. The other petitioners include MWM Vice Chairman Allama Syed Ahmad Iqbal Rizvi and in-charge political affairs Asad Abbas Shah.
The petitioners took the plea that they went to the Adiala Jail under the court’s order but their meeting was not arranged with the PTI founder. They said the March 8 order was shown to the jail authorities but they were asked to wait. “On March 11, the jail administration did not arrange our meeting with the PTI founder despite that we waited from 9 am to 4pm,” said the petition.
They requested the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the jail superintendent for not complying with the court orders.
In a related development, the same court, while hearing the petitions filed by Barrister Gohar, Omar Ayub Khan and others in connection with their meeting with the PTI founder, assured them that a proper order would be issued in this regard.
A petition moved by Barrister Gohar came up for hearing before Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb on Tuesday. Shoaib Shaheen, counsel for Barrister Gohar, told the court that the petitioners wanted to meet the PTI founder along with Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz for exchange of views on the election but the jail authorities were not allowing the meeting.
