The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan issued a statement on Tuesday clarifying that the resignation of its MNA on minority seat Dr Mohan Manjiani was sought over reports from sensitive institutions against him.
The statement read that there are reports that Manjiani was involved in illegal and anti-state activities. It added that his activities were observed at the Indian high commission in Islamabad.
Meanwhile, Geo News reported that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the membership of Manjiani, who secured his seat through a minority quota in the February 8 general election.
According to a notification issued by the electoral body, Manjiani's membership will remain suspended until further notice. This development follows reports that Manjiani submitted his resignation to the ECP. However, the legislator vehemently denied resigning, asserting that the signatures on the document were fraudulent.
In a conversation with Geo News, Manjiani insisted that the initials on the resignation letter sent to the ECP were "fake”. He clarified that his NA membership case was pending in the election tribunal, awaiting a decision.
Furthermore, Manjiani mentioned that he had no plans to approach the party on this matter, saying there was no room left for that.
