HYDERABAD: A newborn baby who was abducted from the Civil Hospital Hyderabad on February 22 has been recovered, said a Hyderabad police officer.
Baldia ASP Rana Dilawar held a press conference at the police headquarters to inform the media about the recovery of the kidnapped infant. He said the newborn child was abducted on February 22 during treatment from the Civil Hospital.
The officer said police initiated investigations immediately after the infant’s father Imdad Ali reported the kidnapping to them. Ali and his wife had come to Hyderabad from Tando Allahyar for their newborn baby’s treatment on February 21.
ASP Dilawar said the police had also arrested a suspect identified as Hamza, alias Sono in connection with the kidnapping and search for the alleged kidnapper, Shahnaz, was under way. The officer said the abductor woman wanted to kidnap another child but she kidnapped Ali’s child when she got the opportunity.
The mother of the newborn gave the infant to Shahnaz to give the child a bathe. Taking advantage of it, she ran away with the infant from the hospital. Later she sold the infant for Rs100,000 to a woman who wanted to save herself from divorce.
The buyer woman told police that her child had died during delivery so she bought the infant. The kidnapper woman Shahnaz hailed from Larkana and lived in Latifabad, the ASI said. The child was recovered from a vehicle in Kotri city in Jamshoro district.
