KARACHI: There has been a notable increase in the number of citizens applying for driving licences in Karachi. The count of individuals obtaining international driving licences has also seen a considerable rise.
According to statistics, records from the past have been surpassed, and in the current year, an amount exceeding Rs500 million rupees has been collected in fees for driving licenses.
Deputy inspector general of police for training and driving licenses, Irfan Ali Baloch, told Jang that from January till November 2023, a total of 250,958 learner’s licences and 263,776 permanent driving licences were issued from Karachi’s driving licence branches. Baloch added that during 2022, 241,315 learners and 226,777 permanent driving licences were issued, while in 2021, the numbers were 293,098 and 280,279, respectively. In 2020, the figures were 214,131 and 167,074.
The DIG said that in 11 months of 2023, a total revenue of Rs500 million was collected through fees for learner, permanent and international driving licences.
