Wahab said that given the ever-increasing population of the city, solving the problems of water supply and drainage is included in the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) manifesto.

While all the resources are being utilised for further improvement of the city, everyone will see a clear difference in the coming time, he added.

The mayor was addressing a ceremony in which 40 jetting and suction machines manufactured for Rs901 million were handed over to the KWSC at the MD Secretariat, Karsaz. KWSC CEO Engr Syed Salahuddin Ahmed was also present on the occasion.

The KWSC received 14 suction machines, 14 jetting machines, 10 combined jetting machines and two automobile workshops in the second phase. Wahab said they are serious about solving the problems of Karachi. “We all have to bring improvement in Karachi, and improvement will be possible only when we all contribute.”

He invited all the political and religious parties of Karachi to come and work together for the development and prosperity of the city. At the ceremony the mayor handed over the keys to jetting and suction machines to the KWSB CEO.

Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, KWSC COO Engr Asadullah, PPP leader Karamullah Waqasi, Dil Muhammad, Jumman Durwan, Sikandar Baloch, board member Zafar Subhani, Advocate Tanzeel Pirzada and top water board officials were also present on the occasion.

The mayor said the KWSC is going to start a fleet management portal, under which track systems would be installed in all suction and jetting machines, adding that by installing track systems, it would be known to users where the suction and jetting machines are located and where they are working.

He said the KWSC is serious about solving the water supply and drainage problems of the city with a new commitment and a new identity. The machinery received will be useful for people because they are equipped with Euro 2 engines of 90 metres that are capable of unclogging severe sewage blockages, and the modern machines have a capacity of 7,000 litres, while all the machine pumps installed have been imported from Italy, he added.

Wahab said that in the third phase, 20 combined jetting and suction machines would be handed over to the KWSC. He said they are working on increasing the 50 mgd supply from the Hub Dam, while another 65 mgd project is under consideration.

“Efforts are being made to complete all the projects as soon as possible,” he said, adding that the KWSC has been improved and strengthened under the new act.

The positive results have started showing, the mayor pointed out, and the provincial government would be talked for the early completion of the making of the tribunal for the water corporation.
