LAHORE:The Young Doctors Association (YDA), Punjab, observed strike in outdoor wards at all teaching hospitals in Lahore on Monday in protest against the killing of Dr Zeeshan Anwar in Gujrat and ‘unwarranted terminations of doctors’.
The Out-Patient Departments (OPDs) of Mayo Hospital, Services Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore General Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lady Wellingdon Hospital, Lady Aitchison Hospital gave an empty look on Monday. The slip-issuance counters were closed in OPDs, and the patients especially coming from far-off areas have to face a lot of difficulties.
The YDA stopped all types of tests from OPD as patients were also not admitted for elective surgeries. The YDA Punjab President Dr Shoaib Niazi said that the killers of Dr Zeeshan Anwar have not been apprehended even after the passage of two weeks. Besides, he said, the health department has been issuing termination orders of doctors without proper procedures. Dr Shoaib Niazi announced calling off strike in OPDs but gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the government to arrest the killers of the doctors and withdraw termination orders of doctors without legal grounds.
