ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Finance has refused to provide monetisation of 2,000 units of electricity to former Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan (CJP) Justice (retd) Anwar Zaheer Jamali and cited rules that did not allow reimbursement of the amount.

According to the Ministry of Finance (Regulation Wing) official communication, sent to the Supreme Court assistant registrar under the title of “Reimbursement of the Cost of the Consumed Units of Electricity Adjusted Through Net Metering 1 The Bill”, the rules do not provide for monetisation of the facility.

The rule provides for the government to incur expenditure up to a maximum of 2,000 units of electricity consumed on behalf of the retired SC judge, the letter stated.

It is relevant to mention here that the former chief justice of Pakistan had made a request through a letter from the Registrar that he had installed a 15-KV solar power system at his residence, which he personally paid for.

As a result, the cost of electricity units consumed at his residence is being adjusted through net metering (solar system), and his bills indicate “payment not required”. In his letter dated October 3, 2023, the former CJP requested reimbursement for the consumed units adjusted through net metering, as per his entitlement under the 1997 Order.
