Swat varsity to introduce mountain farming & climate change subjects

MINGORA: The University of Agriculture Swat has announced plans to make mountain farming and climate change part of the curriculum and research at the seat of learning.

The announcement was made by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Dawood Jan on Tuesday while distributing scholarship cheques to a group of students.“The scholarship programme has been started to help students with higher education and research,” he said while speaking at the ceremony.

As many as 18 students from the university’s Takhtband campus received the cheques under the scholarship programme.The vice-chancellor said The University of Agriculture Swat started its journey from a sub-campus in February 2020 and it was given the status of a regular university in December 2021.

“Currently, the students from two batches are being imparted quality education in the temporary building of the university in Mingora where they have all the facilities and qualified staff. Soon, the university’s own building will be constructed in Matta,” he added.

The vice-chancellor said this university was different from other agricultural universities and we have decided to take steps in view of mountainous agriculture as well as climate change to enhance the beauty of Swat and promote eco-tourism”, the vice-chancellor said.

He added that currently the teaching and learning process was going on in five departments of the university and more departments would be launched with time.The vice-chancellor said steps would be taken to provide employment and job opportunities to the students who graduate from the university.Shields were distributed among the staff members and participants at the end of the ceremony.
