Monsoon rains spell to start in country from today: PMD

The weather experts warned that heavy falls might cause flash floods in hill torrents

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Sunday forecast that the monsoon rainfall in the country would start from Monday (today) and continue till July 8.

In a report, it said that moist currents from the Arabian Sea are likely to penetrate the upper parts of the country and a westerly wave was also likely to enter Pakistan from July 3. Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan and other areas would receive rain with thunderstorms from July 4 to 7.

Rain with wind thundershowers and isolated heavy falls are expected in Barkhan, Sibbi, Loralai, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Lasbella and Naseerabad, Bannu, Karak, Waziristan, Dera Ismael Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Sahiwal and Okara from July 5 to 8.

The PMD report also predicted rainfall with winds, thundershowers with isolated heavy falls in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Ghotki, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana, Mithi, Chhor, Padidan, Nagarparkar, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Dadu, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad and Karachi on July 7 and 8.

The weather experts warned that heavy falls might cause flash floods in hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and adjoining areas of northeast Balochistan. Heavy rains could also trigger landslides in the vulnerable areas of Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Galliyat and hilly areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
