Mother - the one word that cannot be defined in a single phrase; the one word that embodies all the love a human being could possibly offer. She will endure pain for you, forgive your mistakes, encourage you in your endeavours and be you biggest supporter. She will do all these things with unconditional love, and that love will stay with you whether you are five or over 50 years old. This was the sentiment resonated in the recently held launch of a book by Beo Zafar and Asma Nabeel called ‘Beydari’, held in the Arts Council auditorium in Karachi.

At the event, esteemed members of the entertainment industry were invited including Anwer Maqsood, Hina Dilpazeer, Yasra Rizvi, Sidra Iqbal, Sanam Saeed, Toddshia, Sana Shahnawaz, Imran Ashraf, Hajra Yamin, Fahad Mustafa, Noor Hasan, Amna Ilyas, Abdullah Farhatullah, Beenish Pervaiz amongst others. The event kicked off with the introduction of the book by Javed Jabbar, followed by an amusing commentary by Anwer Maqsood in his signature style.

Beo Raana Zafar is an actor, writer and comedian, famously known for her role in the Pakistani movie, ‘Cake’. Zafar is woman with a passion for poetry, and it was this passion that led her to author a book called in 2008 ‘The Dreamer Awakes’. However, Beo confessed that she never thought about writing about the book until her mother passed away, the person who always insisted that she pursue creative activities.

Even though Beo had written this book, she always desired one thing: to be able to express her poems in a language as beautiful as Urdu. Zafar’s only regret, however, was that she couldn’t write as well in Urdu as she did in English, leaving her long-awaited dream unfulfilled. It was, at last, due to the remarkable translation skills of Asma Nabeel - the talented screenplay writer behind ‘Khuda Mera Bhi Hai’, ‘Khaani’ and ‘Maan Jao Na’ - that ‘Beydari’ was born, allowing Zafar to finally witness her dream come true.

Beo and Asma both dedicated this book to their beloved mothers. “It started last year when I met Beo Raana Zafar and today our dream became a reality. A dream that I felt and saw for my mother. A dream that Beo and Saira saw for their mothers,” said Asma as she extended her gratitude to family and everyone who has supported them and contributed towards their success.

The event concluded with Schumaila Rahmat Hussain’s performance as she beautifully sang one of the poems from the book, with Noor Hassan and Shafqat Khan on the instruments.

‘Beydari’ is now available at Liberty Books, in stores and online.
