Throughout history, women have tried to make their wedding dress special to suit the festive occasion. A bride-to-be always hopes that she stands out and her dress encapsulates a hopeful, romantic nostalgia for years to come.

Since wedding season is in full swing, girls would be on the lookout for a special piece for their big day!

While the traditional red lehenga will rule over our hearts for decades to come, brides have been experimenting with different styles. This has given an excuse to designers to experiment and make the perfect fusion to churn out unique heirloom pieces.

One designer who has found the perfect fusion is Zainab Chottani. Since her debut show in 2009, the Karachi-based designer has carved a niche for herself with a taste of traditional fashion complemented by a flair for contemporary aesthetic. Having presented in various fashion weeks such as Fashion Pakistan and Bridal couture week among others, overtime she has also been invited to exhibit her beautifully crafted overseas. Chottani’s exclusive designer lawn is another coveted range of luxury unstitched fabric featuring boasting plush fabrics and intricate embroideries is targeted towards women who prefer to stitch their clothes according to their taste and style.

Her recent collection ‘Khwab’ was an ethereal dreamy showcase inspired by the Victorian era. The perfect combination of opulent, traditional craftsmanship and antique supremacy, ‘Khwab’ gave the quintessential vintage aura. Given the recent trends in bridals, where women are not just limited to lehenga choli, the collection featured dresses which not only exuded a modern touch but also stayed true to the traditional work. The elegant pieces featured cut work in the sleeves and borders, shaded dupattas, sari tops with bow ties, kaftans with shimmer and flared sleeves, tailored sleek silver-grey pant suit, a lot of nets on the backs, diamante work and a heavily embroidered cold shoulder gown. It celebrated timeless feminine elegance from subtle classic ivory to powerful hues that exuded charm and charisma, perfect for fairytale decadence.

Chottani’s atelier

Recently, the bridal wear designer opened the doors to her first atelier in Gulberg, Galleria Mall Main Boulevard, Lahore. This atelier marks her first retail presence to cater to growing demands of clientele in Punjab. The launch event featured a star studded red carpet event attended by a host of celebrities, popular socialites, bloggers and distinguished members of the press. The store showcases her diverse range of ready to wear, Luxury pret and Couture Bridal evening wear collections.

The launch event also be unveiled a timeless Wedding Festive Collection in the brand’s signature colours and aesthetics fused in the most luxuriant of fabrics, beautifully embellished by the sparkly Swarovski crystals. The clothes have a sense of exuberance and joy with her pleasing use of lace, pearls and floral accents exuding a happy and rather charming character of a Zainab Chottani woman. Her forte is an aesthetic which meticulously balances intricacies with the demands of extravagance be it refreshing pret a porter, or opulent bridal wear in the most luxuriant fabrics.

Speaking about her latest exhibition, the designer commented, “We have always felt that even though we have had a burgeoning online business catering to clients worldwide, a lot of women from Punjab always had queries. So our aim with opening this atelier and showcasing the latest collection is to cater to all those ladies who appreciate an aesthetic with exquisite craftsmanship and delicate patterns. It’s our daintiness with an eye for detail that sets us apart from the rest. Unlike online shopping, in the store you can see them up close, get them customised and what not!”
