After claiming his rightful position as Pakistan’s biggest Internet sensation in 2013, it seems Americans too were won over by Taher Shah’s sensational cum absurd song ‘Eye to Eye’. If Shah’s latest claim on his website is anything to go by, then the singer has just been awarded the Prestige Music Award for Best Lyrics in the US!

According to a blog entry by the artist made on March 25 and shared on March 29 on his official Facebook Page, the singer claims that he has won the American Prestige Music Award for penning the lyrics of his viral song ‘Eye to Eye’. “As the first Pakistani, I have won the Prestige award of America in the technical category of ‘Lyrics’,” he wrote. “The Prestige award statuette is for my beloved country Pakistan. As promised I have introduced my country to the world through my nation’s lovable song ‘Eye to Eye’ and like all my world records, rewards, achievements, this Prestige Music Award is also a gift for my proud nation of Pakistan.”

Not that we doubt Taher’s potential for he did take social media by storm, we still took the liberty of ensuring if Prestige Music Awards were a reality or some Internet troll had played a prank on us and our beloved Taher ahead of April Fool’s Day. And it turns out that there is in fact an association under the same name. The website states “The Prestige Music Award honours the finest in music productions.  Our mission is to inspire musicians by recognizing, promoting and supporting creativity in music production and performance.” The winner not only gets a shining trophy but also publicity assistance, radio airtime and an introduction to a number of music producers and distributors. Well, all we can say is way to go Taher!

Indian serials are all about exaggeration: Javed Sheikh

While on a trip to the historic Lucknow to shoot for his upcoming Bollywood film, veteran Pakistani actor/director Javed Sheikh commended Pakistani television serials by describing them as “closer to reality”. Sheikh told Times of India that “Pakistani serials are finite [whereas] Indian dramas are all about exaggeration and are infinite”.

The Na Maloom Afraad actor also stated that he was fortunate enough to have never searched for work in Bollywood, instead offers came to him directly. However, despite working in more than a handful of Indian films including Jannat, Om Shanti Om and Namastey London, the actor feels he hasn’t been able to portray roles as diverse as in Pakistani films.

“Even though I have worked in so many Bollywood movies and am still getting offers to work here, I still haven’t got the kind of good roles that I am doing in Pakistani movies,” he said. “But jo recognition Bollywood movies ki hai woh kisi ki nahi hai. Just like every Bollywood actor aspires for Hollywood, Pakistani actors look up to Bollywood.”
