It’s great that you guys have started a Head of Department series in your magazine. I would recommend you should talk to the Heads/chairpersons of different departments at government universities and also ask them for their opinions on career choices.

Hello Ed,

It’s great that you guys have started a Head of Department series in your magazine. I would recommend you should talk to the Heads/chairpersons of different departments at government universities and also ask them for their opinions on career choices. For example, the head of the sociology department should tell why he/she opted for sociology and how students should figure out if they are genuinely interested in the subject.

Yes, you will find a lot of students who wouldn’t be able to tell why they have chosen a particular subject; this is sad that even after a getting their degrees, they feel “unsure”. I think many students go through this and they find no one who could help them find their passion and guide them accordingly. I wish you would have asked the director of Centre of excellence in Journalism about this problem and asked him why he chose journalism.

Hi Ed,

The cover story “Raising the bar of journalism” was informative; the answers were brief and to the point. However, the layout, especially the front page didn’t stand out!

One more thing: will you guys publish interviews of Heads of Department from other cities like Peshawar, Lahore, Quetta or Islamabad?

Niha Hussain, Peshawar

Yes, we are taking contributions for this series. And we encourage students to interview their heads of departments or even the deans.

 Hi Editor,

‘Art and Modern Solutions’ by S.G was such a compelling read that it made me brainstorm related ideas. Changing the world isn’t impossible; tiny tweaks can lead to big changes especially in today’s age where a picture posted on social media can reach millions. It depends on how creatively and cleverly you present your message.

For me, Shermeen Zuberi’s article was interesting and informative even though I don’t watch TV.

I have a question. If I ever want to send an article, should it be in a specific format such as pdf or should I just paste the content in the email as it is?

Fatima Saeed, Islamabad

Hello Fatima, we value your feedback. You can attach your contribution as doc file. Just make sure whatever you write is youth-oriented; and, word count for one-pager is 550-650 and it increases accordingly.

Don’t forget to send your nic and postal address along with the write-up.

Editor’s note

Dear all,

We received hundreds of entries for Us Poetry Competition ’17 and we loved reading each one of them! So much that it was difficult for our judges to decide the winners.

Congratulations to Hunnia Yousuf, Iqra Asad, Adil Ali, Amna Habib, Shariq Ahmed, Urooj Siddiq and Farrukh Aqil!

Poems that bagged the fourth position will be published next week.

Till next time,

Bye!

US MAILReflection

Narrated by Abu Huraira (R.A)

Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) said, “While a man was walking, he felt thirsty and went down a well and drank water from it. On coming out of it, he saw a dog panting and eating mud because of excessive thirst. The man said, ‘This (dog) is suffering from the same problem as that of mine. So, he (went down the well) filled his shoe with water, caught hold of it with his teeth and climbed up and watered the dog. Allah thanked him for his (good) deed and forgave him.” The people asked, “O Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W)! Is there a reward for us in serving (the) animals?” He replied, “Yes, there is a reward for serving any animate.”
