“We should look forward in our life and make new memories and achieve our dreams,” Muhammad Shahroze, Chairman Training and Development at The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), motivates the participants with his interesting talk “90 Minutes Guide to Interesting and Happy Life” at 6th INSPYRE Learning Expo ‘17.

ISPYRE (Inspiring Pakistani Youth to Reach Excellence)  - a project of Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sindh, in collaboration with Habib University Foundation (HUF) - has been empowering young people for six years. This year, several renowned trainers, educationists and industry experts conducted sessions and workshops at the sixth INSPYRE Learning Expo.  Participants listened to the words of wisdom and life experiences of trainers and experts from School of Leadership (SoL), Talent Optimizers, The Learning Minds Group!, The Brand Consultants, and Training and Consultancy Services (T&Cs).

Sharing insights on employability skills during the session “You are hired”, Uzair Ausaf, CEO Torque Corp said, “There is no dearth of jobs in the market, but our youth doesn’t have the relevant skills. Even you have to learn how to appear in job interviews as many fail to impress their employers.”

“Knowledge and technical skills are not enough! You also need emotional intelligence to live a life with greater confidence and security. Work places have evolved and now employers want their employees to be cooperative, flexible and open-minded; sometimes these traits would be more preferred than your degrees and formal education. Employees with good communication and problem solving skills usually outperform their colleagues,” Ranjeet Kumar, Learning and Development Manager, Smollan Field Services Unilever Pakistan Limited shared in his session “Sharpen the Mind through Emotional Intelligence”.

“Universities may teach you the subject, but they will not teach you life skills.” Arif Pyarali from Learning Minds Group! in his session “7 Things Universities Do Not Teach You” lamented.

Unlike other sessions, Mr. Faheem Bukhari’s session slightly deviated from the norms of motivational training sessions. He came for a reality check! We have never heard any motivational trainer say ‘You can’t do it”, but this is what Faheem Bukhari reminded in his session, “there are goals that you can’t accomplish because you don’t want to leave your comfort zone. It is often difficult to leave the auto-pilot phase, i.e. the routine and try something new.” However, he also provided few tips and techniques to break the habit of routine.

Not just skills and talks, participants also got a chance to attend sessions on fashion designing, art, language and web designing.  The visitors not only enjoyed the sessions, but also appreciated the efforts of INSPYRE, Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sindh and HUF. A student said, “It was great to be part of this expo! Talks and sessions by different trainers were quite motivating.”

The INSPYRE project has been implemented in five districts of Sindh. Institute for Advancing Careers and Talents (iACT) is run by Habib University Foundation and local government of Karachi. iACT has taken up the cause of engaging and empowering young people from marginalized areas. iACT aims to help youth from poverty-stricken areas.
