The Donkey King crosses the 20-crore benchmark

Released across Pakistan last month (October 13), The Donkey King, written, directed and co-produced by Aziz Jindani, is still going strong at the box office. The Donkey King, released under the banner of Geo Films, follows the story of Mangu, a donkey who becomes king by chance, and how things take a turn from there.

Now in its eighth week, the animated production has up till now earned approximately 21.25 crores, according to Entertainment Pakistan, and is a first of its kind film that has been on top of the charts continuously. The site also stated that The Donkey King has beaten the box office numbers of Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif starrer Thugs of Hindostan, which is now in its third week.

The film broke all previous box office records for an animated film produced in Pakistan and collected 4 crores in the first week and raked in over 10 crores (collectively) in its second and third week. Moreover in the fourth, fifth and sixth week, the film generated around 6.2 crores and as per estimates, it has earned almost 90 lacs in the seventh weekend, crossing 20 crore rupees and in doing so has set a new precedent for all animated movies produced in Pakistan until now.
