Despite the odds taking over the city in the last couple of days, a creative window of entertainment – the Sindh Theatre Festival 2018 - commenced on November 2 and will run till November 18, at the Karachi Arts Council. President of the Arts Council, Mohammad Ahmed Shah and the Secretary Culture Sindh, Pakistan, Ghulam Akbar Laghari were present at the inauguration and addressed those in attendance.

Speaking to attendees at the event, Ahmed Shah noted that the Arts Council has always played a key role in promoting arts and culture in Pakistan. “We have promoted a positive image of the country during very hard times,” he shared. “Even today, roads are blocked and the situation is uncertain outside but we decided to inaugurate the Sindh Theater Festival as planned, though we just have a single person in the hall. We are using all tools to promote a civilized society and we will continue to play our role very well.”

The 17-day festival opened with the performance of a play called Ullu and Mano, which was directed by Anjum Ayyaz. It highlighted issues that single men and women face in society and the differences they encounter once they get married.

The event will feature 10 Sindhi and 10 Urdu plays by some great theatre directors, including Khalid Ahmed, Zain Ahmed and Dawar Mehmood. Some of the plays include Ikhtiyar, Jasoosi Duniya, Kyun Nikala, Raagni, Chup and Chehro Chehro Aaino.
