Parwaaz Hai Junoon, one of the three big banner films releasing this Eid, met with some unfortunate turbulence when its Karachi premiere was cancelled last minute on Sunday evening. Many people invited to the event found out about its cancellation after getting to the venue, the Nueplex Cinemas on Rashid Minhas Road.
No official reason for the cancellation was given to the media nevertheless conspiracy theories began pouring in a dime a dozen. The first alleged reason was that the Central Board of Censors had objected to the portrayal of the Pushtoon community as terrorists; it must be pointed out that the Sindh Board and the Punjab Board had cleared the film for release. Other rumours suggested technical misrepresentations of the aircrafts, which authorities had issues with. The strongest buzz circulated around the fact that the premiere had been cancelled so people could watch the Prime Minister’s first address to the nation.
Whatever the reason, a board assembled to review the film on Monday morning, after which it was announced that the film had been cleared without any cuts. Parwaaz Hai Junoon will release and be screened according to schedule. Meanwhile, we’re still wondering why the premiere was cancelled.
