The actor speaks to Instep about his upcoming web series, tentatively titled Murder In The Air, and other future projects.

Hamza Firdous has a very few but impactful roles to his credit. His first ever Pakistani drama O’Rangreza (2017), which was received very well by masses, featured him as a greedy and self-centered young man while he essayed the role of a sensible and decent Hindu gentleman in his second play, the recently concluded period drama Ghughi.

While he is gearing up for his third TV role in the upcoming drama Maria Binte Abdullah, he is soon to appear in a web series with the working title, Murder In The Air.Currently in pre-production, the web series is a murder mystery, as the name suggests, and will be filmed in October, according to Hamza.

“I always wanted to do a web series,” Hamza told Instep in an exclusive conversation. “It is a murder mystery based on eight episodes. We want to make a pivot episode which itself will be broken down into three parts; a series of sorts on its own.”

Hamza also informed that the series will be shot in Belfast and Dublin and he might direct the first part of it though acting is and will always be his first love. He believes in focusing on one task at a time before delving into other areas. Apart from him, the rest of the cast is Irish while one of the two writers of the project is a Pakistani. This isn’t his first web series; he did one in Dublin, a couple of years ago, that also won multiple accolades in the festival circuit.

Moving on, the actor revealed that he is gearing up for a short film as well as a feature length film that are lined up for the near future. The short film is called Frogster; it is written by Irish writer Anthony Couglan and is based on the theme of social integration in Ireland. Besides, the upcoming feature film is a small-budget, festival yet content-oriented film set in Bahawalpur. “It’s a beautiful story which is hilarious and emotional at the same time,” asserted Hamza

Though he is under a contract due to which he didn’t reveal much about the upcoming feature film, mentioning that more will be disclosed once the first look is out, Hamza informed that they have wrapped up shooting for it. He also confirmed that the film that was originally meant for festivals will release in theatres across Pakistan as well.

Hamza is also in talks for some TV plays in Pakistan that he will be shooting for in the coming months. “I want to do one drama at a time so that I can give my 100 per cent to the character I’ve committed to. I’m happy with the kind of roles I’m being offered and trusted with.”

Coming back to Hamza’s next TV play, Maria Binte Abdullah, the actor has wrapped up shooting his part for the project that has been directed by Saleem Ghanci, while it stars young actor Kinza Hashmi opposite him.

Reflecting on his character in the upcoming play, Hamza shared, “It’s a very positive character. The audience will be surprised to see me playing this part as it is in complete contrast with the ones I’ve played in the past.”

He essays the role of a businessman named Ammar, who loses his parents at a very young age after which he lives with his grandmother. Ammar is a religious person and this is reflected in his demeanor and his every day dealings.

Produced under the banner of 7th Sky Entertainment, Maria Binte Abdullah follows the story of Maria (essayed by Kinza), who comes to Karachi to find her roots and cross paths with Ammar. The two fall in love with each other. However, the story is not as simple as it sounds and will have its twists and turns once it proceeds.

The drama is expected to air sometime after Eid ul Azha on Geo TV.
