Ali Noor, one half of music group Noori and a terrific singer-songwriter and music producer, is presently in the spotlight for lending his voice to the upcoming animated film, Allahyar and the Markhor as the villainous Mani. He is also featured on the film’s original soundtrack, having sung the recently released ‘Hum Hain Rahi’, a soaring tune that traces the story of Allahyar and his friends. While ‘Hum Hain Rahi’ is abundant proof that Noor is still at the top of his game, the cherished musician has no plans of slowing down.

Speaking to Instep during the press junket of Allahyar and the Markhor – a film that has taken computer-generated animation in the country to the next level - Noor revealed that he has plans to put a solo album via BIY Music, which to us sounds like a dream come true.

“BIY Music is like starting a record label. I’m doing a solo album, others too are doing them,” revealed Noor before adding, “Actually Allahyar has kicked it off for me in terms of writing lyrics particularly.”

He added: “It’s great fun. Other artists are doing songs too. I’m trying to get back into a zone where we have a huge influx of original music, the way it used to be. Now it’s not about trying to make music for money or all that stuff. BIY Music is about the times you grew up to, which was a very uncomplicated thing and still prevalent in the world except Pakistan, and that is you write your own songs, record them and put them out. And you try to write an album instead of singles because singles don’t represent a body of work and that’s it.”

It’s good to see Noor opening doors to artists who need the support with BIY music but it’s also gratifying to know that Ali Noor, the force behind some of Noori’s most memorable tunes, is heading in a solo direction with a full-length record. Perhaps this decision will have a trickle-down effect and others in mainstream will follow suit. Either way, we can’t wait to see what Noor creates on his solo album, lyrically and sonically.
