Urdu language feature film, My Pure Land, has been chosen by Britain for Oscar 2018 submission in the foreign language film category. Directed by debutant Sarmad Masud, the film stars’ Pakistani dancer-actor Suhaee Abro and has been shot entirely in Pakistan amidst tough conditions.

Based on a true story, My Pure Land follows the story of three women, a mother and her two daughters, who fight against the army of 200 bandits to save their land in rural Pakistan. The elder daughter, Nazo Dharejo, essayed by Abro, is a courageous woman who protects the land from opponents with the help of her mother and sister.

My Pure Land was first screened at the Edinburgh Film festival while it released in UK on September 15. The female-centric film has received mixed reviews so far while its submission for Oscar race marks the first time an Urdu language film has been selected by Britain to send to the Academy Awards. We hope the film makes it big at the Oscars that are scheduled to take place on March 4, next year.a
