While Coke Studio 10 has one more episode scheduled for release and Pepsi Battle of the Bands has concluded its second season with Kashmir taking the top prize, a lot is coming up in the next couple of months.
One case in point is music producer/composer Mekaal Hasan, who not only made his debut as producer on Coke Studio earlier this year but is also actively putting out music from the glorious Mekaal Hasan Band archive. Featuring a combination of singers and musicians, the material can be found online at various music platforms. It has been remastered by Hasan and represents the band’s strong history of collaborating with other artists.
Apart from giving fans MHB material, Hasan has just announced a new live music series that he is set to curate. Titled ‘Rivayat Music Series’, the concert series is backed by Publicis Pakistan and will take place in Karachi.
Hasan is heading the project that aims to highlight the music of Sindh and present it to those who inhabit overlooked spaces in Karachi. With a mission to promote community engagement, it will feature regional music and artists spread over the course of four concerts. Set to appear this winter, the shows will take place in different parts of Karachi such as Gulzar-e-Hijri, Pehlwan Goth, Sakhi Hasan and Paposh Nagar. All four performances will be open to the public.
