We reported earlier that Yasir Nawaz’s Mehrunisa V Lub U and Hassan Waqas Rana’s Yalghaar – the two local films to have released on Eid ul Fitr – opened to decent numbers at the box office. A large number of people went to watch these films during the festive season with their family and friends as no Bollywood film was on display.

The release of Salman Khan-starrer Tubelight was pushed to a later date. However, given that a number of Hollywood projects were running in cinemas during Eid holidays, it is interesting to note that local films ruled the box office.

According to box office numbers for all three Eid days shared by Box Office Detail, Mehrunisa V Lub U and Yalghaar raked in more money than any of the Hollywood films that were on display. Released under the banner of Eveready Pictures, Yalghaar is leading the number game with a total of 6.35 crores earned in three days, followed by Mehrunisa V Lub U, released under the same banner, that stands at 4.25 crores.

Other releases such as Transformers 5 earned 1.48 crores at the local box office while The Mummy holds fourth position with a total of 92 lacs, followed by Pirates of The Caribbean 5 at 65 lacs and Despicable Me 3 at 37 lacs, respectively.

The good news is that viewers are taking interest in films coming out of Pakistani cinema and this is a step forward for the local film industry. We hope filmmakers continue to deliver and the number of good films keeps increasing in the coming days.
