Meghan Markle was all set to return to acting, but her potential role in Netflix series The Gentlemen has been withdrawn.

According to royal author Tina Brown, the Duchess of Sussex's role in Guy Richie's series was pulled after "intense" backlash in the UK.

On her Fresh Hell Substack, Tina wrote, "The backlash in the UK was so intense, it became untenable to go forward."

"This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the UK. More to come," she added.

It is pertinent to mention that the role had been widely discussed as a possible major acting comeback of the former Suits actress. However, her involvement in The Gentlemen had not been officially confirmed.

This comes shortly after news that Markle and Prince Harry plan to return to the U.K. with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for an extended period.

Although it has still not been confirmed, but if the withdrawn is true this could represent a significant setback for Meghan Markle. However, the Duchess of Sussex is also linked to other entertainment projects including Close Personal Friends.

On the other hand, Rob Shuter reported on his Naughty But Nice Substack that Meghan had only agreed to move to the UK for six months. Furthermore, Rob had also reported on Friday that the Duke of Sussex has become "miserable in California and increasingly unhappy with the life they built in Montecito."

Adding that sources revealed to him that the couple's marriage is in "serious trouble," noting that moving to the UK is their "last attempt to save it."

"They are not in a good place. Harry is deeply unhappy, and Meghan knows she cannot keep asking him to live a life that is making him miserable," a source told Rob Shuter. "Meghan is not doing this because she wants to."

"She is doing it because she believes she has to. She does not want to lose Harry, and she knows something has to change," the source said further.
