Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has imposed a ban on QMobile’s latest commercial that features popular game show host Fahad Mustafa. The notice issued states that the advertisement carries content that is inappropriate for Pakistani audience.

“The advertisement carries content that is indecent and unacceptable and is also against the rules and regulations of PEMRA,” the notice states. “Therefore, as per PEMRA Ordinance 2002 (Amendment Act 2007) sections 27 (a), QMobile ‘E1’ commercial will be completely banned from 6pm on Saturday, June 10. TV channels that go against this will face consequences as per PEMRA Ordinance 2002 (Amendment Act 2007), sections 29 and 30.”

The commercial features Mustafa unable to inform his girlfriend that he’s running late and this results in her dating someone else. According to the commercial, If Mustafa had a QMobile, this wouldn’t have happened.

What exactly caused PEMRA to ban the advertisement is unclear. However, possible reasons could be the idea of having a girlfriend which isn’t part of traditional Pakistani culture. Another reason might be the fact that the restaurant where she’s waiting has a bar and chances are that people sitting around her could be inebriated.
