Since the arrival of tech-meets-music startup, Patari, we have been seeing a steady rise in the number of artists who have the potential to take the music industry in a much-needed new direction. Though commercial projects will, in all probability, always exist, it’s the emergence of newer acts that is giving us hope.

Since the arrival of tech-meets-music startup, Patari, we have been seeing a steady rise in the number of artists who have the potential to take the music industry in a much-needed new direction. Though commercial projects will, in all probability, always exist, it’s the emergence of newer acts that is giving us hope.

One act who represents this new age is SomeWhatSuper, a Lahore-based music group that counts Talha Dar and Feroze Faisal as it members. This two-man outfit scored a smash hit with their Patari Tabeer single, ‘The Sibbi Song’ which released earlier this year and went onto share the stage with Atif Aslam at the recently held Geo-Lux Style Awards in Karachi.

Upon further investigation, Instep has learned that SWS has made Patari’s all-time hits list in spectacular fashion. In fact, in the all-time hits list, SomeWhatSuper have three songs featured including their breakthrough number, ‘Bandook’.

When asked about this incredible achievement, Talha Dar from the group told Instep, “This is definitely a milestone for us. And all you guys make it easier for us. Sit tight, a lot more is coming your way.”

Though SWS has had an eventful year so far including playing shows and hanging out with industry giants like Atif Aslam, they are in no mood to slow down. Just recently, the band put out their take on Abida Parveen’s ‘Gharoli’. While they maintain that the track is drenched in electro house, to my ears it sounded like a curious merger of techno-meets-electro. Whatever label you put on it, it is an electrifying cover and only goes to show the incredible talent that has made this group stand out.

In the coming days, weeks and months ahead, the band plans to put out their their debut EP which will contain instrumentals. They will also continue their collaboration streak by working with the likes of Mooroo, Ali Gul Pir and Abid Brohi in the future. Watch out.
